Best Apple Crumble EVER! Seriously!!!

This recipe is what I thought was the Best Apple Dessert Thingy EVER! Seriously!!! Plus it is gluten free, dairy free, and sugar free. It is sweetened with dates and agave. I have been debating whether to call it a crisp or a crumble because it is not really either. The topping is a little more gooey than a normal crisp, but you still get tons crunch from the nuts. It derives most of it’s sweetness from the dates, nature’s candy. If you are looking for a more healthy version of your apple crisp recipe, then this recipe is for you. Plus I think it tastes way better than the butter and sugar packed counterpart. The critic, who usually does not even like apple crisp, even liked it!

Crumble

1/2 cup almonds

1/2 cup walnuts

1/2 cup blanched almond flour (you could probably substitute a gluten free flour like rice flour)

1 cup dates pitted

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp cloves

1/4 tsp freshly ground nutmeg

4 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp salt

1-2 Tbsp water (if necessary to get it moving)

Add all ingredients, except water, to a food processor and pulse. Add a little bit of water if you still need to get it moving. Process until combined, should be a thick goopy mess… Yum!

Apples

4 Fuji Apples peeled and sliced thin

juice of 1/2 lemon

1 Tbsp cinnamon

4 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 cup agave nectar

Mix apples together with other ingredients. Place in baking pan and spoon crumble mixture over apples. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes, until bubbling and apples are cooked. Serve warm and top with coconut milk ice cream… they make it sweetened with agave, so no sugar.

  1. Wendy!! Love the website! I can’t wait to try this. I can have gluten, BUT I am supposed to stay away from refined sugars, starches, and white flour – so your recipes will work for me too.

    Apple crisps are my fave and I LOVE the cocunut milk ice cream (especially vanilla bean flavor) – SO GOOD!

    • Thanks Jen! I am glad that you can use my recipes! You should look into ordering some Blanched Almond Flour, I think HoneyVille is the brand. You have to order it online. I have been using it to bake a lot. It is high in protein and would be really good for you! Otherwise, there are a lot of high protein flours out there. Coconut flour would also be great for you. I hope you enjoy the Apple Crumble Recipe!
